Travel Advice from the Organizing Secretariat

Entry requirements vary depending on your country of citizenship. EU and Schengen-area travelers can enter with a valid ID card or passport for stays up to 90 days. Non-EU travelers may require a visa and will soon be subject to new procedures, including biometric screening (EES starting late 2025) and ETIAS travel authorization (expected in 2026). Car rental services are also available at all major airports.

By Bus
Shuttle bus services connect Munich, Innsbruck, Milan Malpensa, Verona, and Bergamo airports to Bressanone. Companies like Alto Adige Bus altoadigemobilita.info or Clever Transfer clevertransfer.eu operate these routes. Advance booking is recommended. .

By Car
Use the Modena/Brennero toll road (A22). The best exit coming from the south is Chiusa-Val Gardena; from the north, Bressanone-Val Pusteria. Italian highways operate on a toll system — you take a ticket when entering and pay when exiting. Major credit cards are accepted at the “FastPay” and “Viacard” lanes.

Currency
The official currency in Italy is the Euro (€). While major credit cards are widely accepted, it’s a good idea to carry some cash for smaller purchases. Banks typically offer the best exchange rates, but you can also withdraw euros from ATMs at competitive rates. Currency exchange booths at airports, train stations, hotels, and tourist areas offer convenience but may charge higher fees or have less favorable rates.

Electricity
The electrical current in most of Italy is 220 volts, 50 Hz AC, whereas the United States uses 110 volts, 60 Hz AC. The U.S. plugs with two flat prongs are not compatible with Italian outlets, which require continental-style plugs with two round prongs. If you bring 110-volt devices, you’ll need a voltage converter—unless your device is dual voltage and can operate on 220 volts. Voltage converters can be hard to find in Italy, so it’s best to purchase one before you travel.

International Dialing Code
Italy’s country code is +39 and the city code for Bressanone is 0472 (always dial the 0, even when calling from abroad).
- To call the U.S. from Italy: dial 00 + 1 + phone number.
- To call other European countries: dial 00 + country code (e.g., 44 for the UK, 34 for Spain, 33 for France) + phone number

Emergency Toll-free Numbers
113 State Police – Emergency assistance.
115 Fire Department
118 Ambulance – Medical Emergencies

Tipping
In Italy tipping is not customary but always appreciated. If you enjoyed the service, simply rounding up the bill by a few euros is enough. Tipping taxi drivers is uncommon but welcomed, especially if they assist with luggage or offer helpful local advice. It’s also polite to tip hotel porters and concierges who make your stay more comfortable or enjoyable.
